Even though it will be my first smart phone I decided to opt out of the true fan-boy experience. That's right--I'm not one of the faithful waiting for an Apple store to open.
I did the pre-order thing through the Apple website on 10/07/2011. On the 11th I received my shipping notice from Apple and have been tracking it through UPS.

update: 10:00 AT&T activation problems!
update: 11:00 Tried activating via iTunes and still not getting through.
update: 11:35 iPhone 4S is now activated!
